out of province inspections

Vehicles registered in another province must complete an out-of-province vehicle (OOP) inspection before registering and driving in Alberta. This one-time inspection shall be completed within three months of the car entering the province.

What does an OOP involve?

An OOP comprises a full inspection of a vehicle’s condition and all of its components, including:

  • Electrical
  • Fuel and exhaust systems
  • Powertrain
  • Steering
  • Suspension
  • Wiring and lights
  • Engine controls
  • Driveline
  • Brakes and brake system
  • Windshield defrosters and wipers
  • Tires
  • Glass (front and back windshields, windows, side view mirrors)

We will check for any major repairs or signs of structural damage during the inspection and make sure the vehicle is properly serviced. In general, OOP is designed to ensure that vehicles entering Alberta are roadworthy and able to withstand our harsh driving conditions.
